We balance academic learning with emotional wellbeing, life skills, and preparation for adulthood.

Every pupil has their own individual learning pathway designed around their strengths, needs, and aspirations.

We believe learning should be engaging, relevant, and supportive.

We use small teaching groups, trauma-informed practices, and the THRIVE approach to create the best conditions for every pupil to succeed.

We focus on:

Preparing young people for a happy, independent adult life

Lower School Curriculum (Ages 5–12)

Rebuilding Confidence & Engagement

In our Lower School we focus on helping pupils feel safe and happy in school again. Many arrive anxious or disengaged — here they find warm relationships, consistent routines, and a nurturing environment where they can relax and begin to enjoy learning.

Building Strong Foundations

We develop essential skills in reading, phonics, literacy, numeracy, and communication.

Alongside academic learning, we place great importance on emotional regulation, social skills, and positive attitudes to learning through personalised support and small nurture groups.

A Balanced & Aspirational Curriculum

Our curriculum balances structured learning with creativity, outdoor activities, and play. We are ambitious for every child and prepare them with the academic, personal, and emotional foundations needed for a successful transition into Upper School.

Upper School Curriculum (Ages 12–19 | KS3 KS4 & Post-16)

Preparing for Adulthood

In our Upper School we follow the Preparing for Adulthood framework, supporting young people to become as independent and successful as possible.

We create individual learning pathways that balance academic qualifications with essential life skills, vocational learning, and wellbeing support.

Personalised Pathways & Qualifications

Pupils study core subjects (English, Maths, Science, PSHE) alongside a wide choice of optional subjects including Art, Sport, Animal Care, Construction, Catering, ICT, History, and many more.

Qualifications range from Entry Level and GCSEs through to Level 1, 2 and 3 vocational courses.

Timetables are flexible and regularly reviewed to meet each pupil’s changing needs and aspirations.

Real-World Skills & Experiences

We are supportive of every young person. Our curriculum includes work experience, supported internships, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Forest School, life skills sessions, and careers guidance that meets the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Pupils leave us not only with qualifications, but with the confidence, resilience, and practical skills needed for further education, employment, or independent living.

Enrichment & Wider Curriculum

Learning Beyond the Classroom

At Bettws Lifehouse Kingsland Grange, some of the most powerful learning happens outside the traditional classroom. We offer a rich variety of hands-on experiences that help pupils develop confidence, resilience, and a genuine love of learning.

Our Enrichment Programmes Pupils benefit from a wide range of exciting activities including:

Forest School – Weekly outdoor learning sessions
Duke of Edinburgh Award (Bronze, Silver & Gold)
Outdoor activities and Woodland School
Creative and Performing Arts
Animal Care and Land-Based Learning
Life Skills programme (cooking, budgeting, independent living and more)

These experiences build teamwork, self-belief, practical skills and a stronger connection with the natural world.

Every young person is supported to gain meaningful qualifications while developing vital life skills. Many of our students go on to further education, apprenticeships, supported employment, or university.
